On our way to Hebron Baha will explain you more about the geo-political situation of the governates of Bethlehem and Hebron and the historical importance of both places.
Hebron is the largest Palestinian city in the Westbank. It has always been and still is a trade hub. It is an important city for Jews, Christians and Muslims and known as the city of Abraham.
The Hebron Protocol of 1997 divided the city into two sectors: H1, controlled by the Palestinian Authority and H2, roughly 20% of the city, administered by Israel. A group of over 500 settlers have taken over houses in the old city. They are protected by Israeli soldiers who installed numerous checkpoints and road blocks.
We will walk in the old town center of Hebron, through the souq and we will visit the Ibrahimi mosque. We will see the division and the impact of the settlers and military occupation on the lifes of locals.
We will also visit a young German woman who is married to a Palestinian teacher and lives in Shuhada street, in the Closed Military Zone, that we can reach by passing through the checkpoint.
