Exhibition runs until 3 December 2016.
The latest in Abu Shakra's deeply symbolic works "A Cat Returns Home", the cat has seven lives, and with each attempt, to take him down, he will come back to life and continue to wander through streets and in his intensely local surroundings - demonstrating his presence in defiance against the stereotypes and attempts to erase his existence.
Born in 1963 in the city of Um Al-Fahem, Faird Abu Shakra is a multi disciplinary artist, writer and teacher. A graduate of the Kalisher Art Academy (1984-1988), he has held a number of solo and group exhibitions nationally and across the world and won many prizes including The Young Artist Prize from the Moshe Sharett Foundation (1986 and 1988); the Artist - Teacher Award from the Ministry of Education (1999 and 2000) and The Ministry of Education (2006). Abu Shakra stands out as a distinguished painter often covering the reoccurring themes of home and belonging. He is a founding member of the art gallery of Um Al Fahem and the art gallery in Nazareth as well as Ibdaa Group for Contemporary Artists.
