Saint Joseph Girl Guides group was established in 1974 by Sister Frida Totah and Miss Gloria Nasser who started with only 12 girls and on 9th October they reached 50 members including girl flowers, girl guides and leaders. Through Miss’s Nasser years of leadership many scouting and learning activities were held. These included the first training camp in 1976 and the second training camp in 1978.
In 1980, Miss Nasser had to go to Rome to continue her studies so Mrs. Doris Gattas assumed responsibility for the scouts. At that time the group expanded to include 250 girls who participated in several camps locally in Bethlehem, Beit Jala, Beit Sahour, Jeffna, Nazareth and Latron. They also participated internationally in Belgium, Rome , Spain, France, Ireland, Portugal, Austria and two Arab countries; Lebanon, and Jordan.
In 1994, Saint Joseph Girl Guides was the first group in which 3 leaders including our current leader Agnes Sleibi, got the “wood badge” at the training camp in Jiffna.
From 1990 to 2002 Mrs Ghattas filled the position of the Palestinian International Commissioner of the global Catholic Scouts. Because she had live in Italy in 2002, Miss Gattas resigned.
Mrs. Aida Baboun continued the work and led the group until 2014. Now she continues her scout service with the Palestinian Scout Foundation (Moufawadieh).
During Miss Baboun’s years of leadership the scouts continued to grow and participated in different training and scouting camps locally and internationally. These have been very successful.
In 2015 Mrs. Agnes Sleibi is continuing the efforts of Miss Nasser, Mrs Ghattas and Mrs Baboun.
