علاء الشحام شاعر وملحن ومعلق، ناجح على نطاق فلسطيني واسع، يعكس خلال أغانيه هموم ومعاناة الشعب الفلسطيني، كما أنّه يؤمن بأن الموسيقى ليست فقط لغة عالمية وإنما هي لغة لإحداث تغيير إيجابي.

Hello poets, writers, rappers and artists.

For the first time ever, our monthly spoken word event will be held at Khalil Sakakini this Saturday; where we will be featuring our special guest, Alaa Alshaham. As you voted, there is no particular theme, and the stage is open to all.

Alaa Alshaham is a widely successful Palestinian songwriter and commentator. Alaa’s music often reflects the concerns of the Palestinian people. Mr. Alshaham believes that: “Music is not only a universal language; it’s a language for positive change.” His video “Obama Jai” pokes fun at the Palestinian welcome to President Obama’s visit to Palestine in March of 2013. The video was a hit on YouTube and featured on Aljazeera, MBC, Palestinian and many other media outlets.

There will be live Oud, powerful poetry by many, and the chance for you to get up and perform. Feel free to perfrom anything relevant to spoken word, rap or literal artistic expression.
